Understanding Load Types
Last updated: June 5, 2025
Load Types are used to configure capacity settings for a specific type of appointment separately from your standard settings. This is commonly used for:
a specific client, with a unique shipping & receiving schedule
cargo that requires specific equipment
appointments that take more or less time than other types of appointment
As an example, a facility may have load types for:
FTL
LTL
Floorloaded Containers
A specific type of good that requires a clamp truck
By using Load Types, you can change your capacity or schedule for this specific type of load without modifying the rest of your settings.

🔍 What Are Load Types?
Load Types in Conduit are powerful, flexible labels assigned to appointments that modify how they are scheduled and managed. Rather than treating all freight as equal, Load Types allow facilities to control their calendars based on the operational impact of a shipment.
This prevents bottlenecks and ensures the right resources are available at the right time.
Example Use Cases
A floor-loaded container may require 2x the labor of a palletized dry van
Outbound reefer loads may need priority dock doors and longer appointment windows.
A high-volume shipper may get its own appointment rules and booking portal.
⚙ What Can Load Types Do?
Key Capabilities
Feature | Description |
Override your standard Appointment Duration | Define a different default length for specific types of freight |
Limit Daily Volume | Restrict how many of a particular load type can be booked per day |
Limit Concurrent Appointments | Prevent stacking of complex load types in the same time slot |
Schedule Customization | Set a unique schedule for this specific type of appointment |
Custom Booking Links | Generate links that pre-select a load type for fast scheduling |
Auto-Assignment Rules | Automatically apply load types based on PO#/SO#, carrier, or shipper ID |
🏭 Real-World Scenario
Facility: East Coast DC
Load Type A: “Container”
Duration: 90 minutes
Direction: Inbound only
Max per day: 4
Max concurrent: 1
Load Type B: “Dry Van”
Duration: 30 minutes
Unlimited per day
Custom booking link provided to preferred vendors
Impact: Load Types let this DC balance labor demand, improve appointment punctuality, and streamline bookings for strategic partners without risking overtime from too many containers.
🔄 Auto-Mapping & Logic
You can configure Conduit to automatically apply load types based on:
A dropdown during booking
PO#/SO# patterns
Shipper or carrier identifiers
Order type (via integrations with WMS, TMS, or ERP)
This reduces manual work and improves booking consistency.
💬 Getting Started
To set up Load Types for your facility:
Email support@getconduit.ai with a short description of:
Desired load type names
Duration per type
Daily/concurrent limits
Any unique scheduling rules (limit appointments to a certain time of day or frequency in the day)
PO#/Carrier mapping rules (optional)
We’ll configure and test them—typically within 24 hours.
Your calendar will dynamically respond to freight type and auto-assign load types based on your logic when a load is assigned a load type.
Frequently Asked Questions
